FormscanBy Mark Nunan - ARCTIC WARRIOR, a three-parts brother to Grade One winner Arctic Fire, was disputing the lead when coming down two out on his hurdling debut at Down Royal back in February. It looked like he was going to make a good race of it with the odds-on favourite Decimation, who went close in a Grade Two event next time, and the runner-up in the end was last week’s Galway handicap winner Hallowed Star. Willie Mullins’ 5-year-old, who was third in French bumper on his only previous start, raced freely on that first run in Ireland and he will need to settle better in the refitted hood to last out the extra half-mile here. Hurdling debutant The Banger Doyle looks the only conceivable danger. He ran creditably against some of the top bumper horses in the country before getting a deserved victory at Punchestown in December. He’s been out of action for a similar length of time as the selection, and it’s going to be very hard for him to concede 8lb to the likely short-priced favourite.
