Paul Townend registered consecutive wins wearing Galopin Des Champ’s famous Audrey Turley-silks today as the six-time champion completed a Punchestown double, on Argento Boy rsquo;s (4/7f) in the Ladbrokes "Best Odds Guaranteed On Racing" Maiden Hurdle.

Townend, who has mastered the ‘quiet’ riding style, had earlier pace-set to win with Ethical Diamond and opted for waiting-tactics on Christmas puller-up Argento Boy, as both horses admittedly scored effortlessly by 22 and 15 lengths respectively.

At Leopardstown on Saturday, owner Turley, Townend and Willie Mullins lifted a third-consecutive Irish Gold Cup with Galopin Des Champ and today the trainer’s assistant David Casey reported “Argento Boy was disappointing at Christmas but obviously a reproduction of his previous run here would have done.

“We don’t know why he disappointed at Christmas; he just never ran his race. Paul said he felt much better through the race today, and the further he was going the better he was getting. Paul felt he lacks a bit of concentration over his hurdles, and he should make a nice three-mile chaser next year.”
