We've always had a bit of luck, thankfully, and fair play to Colin Bowe who recommended this mare to us. She wasn't overly expensive, so it's great. Sticwiththeprocess was entitled to win when Gordon’s horse (fourth-placed Whinney Hill) didn’t operate. He’s rated 114 and had handicap experience, so he’s entitled to win that kind of race. The horse that beat him (Grann’s Boy) here in April is now rated 130 and they were well clear of the third that day. He got 9lb for that but that’s his mark and that’s what he is. He was getting 8lb off the winners today, so you’d have to have a 122 horse to beat him. He should jump a fence, he’s a big old fella. You always think they’re going to jump fences but it’s a different ball game and they have to be a bit more of a man about it. He’s a big lairy so-and-so and just does enough.

He had a lovely run in Mallow. He was probably just a bit raw the first day in Gowran and ideally looking back now, I probably would have left his first run to be in Mallow. He’s after coming on from his run in Mallow and I knew he’d be close today. I’m delighted. This is as nice a horse as I’ve had. He’s a really promising horse. He’s owned by Vince O’Driscoll and myself, we are Double O Racing. Anything is for sale, but it won’t bother me to keep this horse as he’s as good a horse as I’ve had. He’s a very smart one going forward.

Yeah, I suppose when she was 109 I felt there was a maiden hurdle in her. If we could go back, we would probably ride her very differently in a bumper. She always seemed like a filly that basically stays and it was only when we changed tactics with her in her maiden hurdles, when she was held up a bit, that she started finishing out her races better. There probably was a bumper in her if I'd known that. Simon said she didn't travel as well as she can. The ground is as quick as you would want for her. She might be starting in season as well. He said he was happy enough she would pick up from the second last. You'd imagine so (go down handicap route) and see what the handicapper does. As long as the ground stays relatively good, she won't be in it for the winter.

That was great. He stepped down to a handicap. He got injured last year. Brian Pierce has been a great supporter of ours down through the years. I’m delighted with him. He’s a huge horse and I’d say it’s only now he’s coming fitness wise. He jumped brilliant. He had been jumping too high but the two lads, Donagh (Meyler) and Keith have been schooling him over the round hurdles at home. They let him rip last Sunday week and he jumped very well. He’s a chaser in the making, hopefully. I’ll say we’ll get another run into him over hurdles, it will depend on the ground. He’s so big he’d definitely want a cut. I’d say he’ll wants three miles eventually too.

She jumps really, really well, really quick. Her bumper form was as good as anything in the race, so if I could just get her back to that. I'm delighted with the lads, they have stuck with her. They were a bit deflated after the last couple of runs because they were really looking forward to this season. She's a good filly and always worked well, so hopefully she can go on and get another one and we'll see then.

In Listowel the first day he ran a bit keen and gassy. The second day he was much more professional. I'd say he found around here a bit tighter today. His jumping hasn't been brilliant, as was the case today. He is just a huge big unit, a big baby. I had spotted this race a while back, being part of the William Hill series and I sort of kept him in mind for it. It's nice when a plan works out. He has hugely supportive owners. Back at Christmas he wasn't 100% sound for a while and we couldn't really find what was wrong. I told the lads that he was just big and backward and to give me time with him, so they've been hugely patient. They are great owners, so it's great to get a winner for them.

That makes it a better day because it was horrendous until then!. I came in and an umbrella left the bookies and missed my head by an inch. I said ‘this is going to be a good day’ because it should have clocked me. Then one fell in the first, one got brought down in the third and then a horse, Quarry Rocco, slipped in the stable and was lame behind and I couldn’t run him. I was saying ‘what have I done wrong?’. That’s brilliant. The lads (Cluain Abhann Racing Syndicate) are great. The horse has been very solid. He ran a good race in Kilbeggan over a year ago but got an injury and we nursed him back. He ran a great race the last day and was super today. He had a lovely racing weight and handled a bit of an ease. We never got to run him on softer because he got an injury in the summer and then we brought him back again this summer. This is his first time that he’s got to run with an ease. I said to the lads that I thought he would appreciate it but I couldn’t be sure. He obviously did.
