He was very positive on him, he's as tough as nails. I'm very happy with that. I knew he was going to run well, but you're always doubting it against the big guns. Onwards and upwards with him, he has a lot more to give. He wants further because he stays, he hasn't a great turn of foot. Dylan rode him perfectly and did exactly what he said he was going to do, drawn on the wide outside. He bided his time and got him in onto the rail before the turn on the back straight. That's only his seventh run, he's strong and he eats up well so we'll keep him on the go. He'll even go hurdling, but we'll see how far he goes on the Flat - we'll see what the handicapper does with him. for whatever reason Desert Friend has become keen in his races. He's not bad at home and we are just trying to keep him settled. We changed his bit for his last run but he was keen again tonight. In fairness to Chris (Hayes), he held on to him although he is now giving more of a blow than the horse. I was wondering why he didn't ‘go’ at the two-furlong pole but he said afterwards that he needed a break!. Chris’ experience counted though, as he knew he would reap rewards at the end of the race. He said he pulled for 1m6f of the (two miles) race, so it was a great ride. Small fields and maybe a turning track (on turf), would suit so hopefully he will win another one.

We let him off for the summer, he had a good break and went out on grass all summer. Then he came back, filled out, and strengthened up and did well. First-time blinkers. The race in Roscommon we were delighted with her. We only got her after she ran over hurdles in Ballinrobe, I got her that evening on the way home. We didn't have a whole lot to do with her, Rory is in Cormac's (Farrell, former trainer) and he had a lot done with her. She ran very well for me in Roscommon and I was delighted, so really fancied her coming here today because she was going very well at home. She settled at home and the same here. She was gamey, she's in good form. I have her in for next week in Thurles and we'll see how she is. We won't rush her back either because she gives it all. The grandson there, James, it is good for him as he took the day off school. He does everything with her at home, so I'm delighted for him. Won in my wife's colours, unfortunately she couldn't be here today as she had to work - somebody has to bring in a few bob!
