He has found life harder since landing a 50 grand handicap in the Curragh almost a year ago, but is dropping down the weights and competes off 61 here with Sadhbh Tormey's claim factored in. He has a notable record on heavy ground. There are dangers aplenty, though. Never Loose didn't perform as expected on his latest visit here, when joint favourite in a higher grade, but represents a jockey/trainer partnership that knows where the winning post is. Amplitude will relish these conditions and is another coming down the weights, while Excuzio Joe performed well on his return to action in second at Bellewstown. Jp's Express wasn't beaten far in third at the Curragh this month.

It's grand to win one with him. I wasn't going to run him this morning, I said the ground was probably too dry. Then I said to the owner we might as well run as there's only two weeks left.

Declan rode her here on Tuesday night and said if he had got out he'd nearly have won. It was a cracking run and I was glad to see the rain come today as that's the ground that she wants. She won on heavy ground here over seven furlongs two years ago so we weren't worried about the ground. She pricked (her ears) and was idling a bit so that's a good sign, Declan reckon she was holding a bit. We'll maybe look at Listowel now and Declan said to try and keep her to that ground.

Her run in Galway was a bit of a disappointment but she broke badly, was racing on the outside and was racing away from horses. She hanging left and was ducking away from them. We thought she was a nice filly going to Leopardstown (third on debut) and I think she still is a nice filly. . She is in the final of this auction series in Naas (October) off a low weight so that is her next port of call.

she looked like she idled so Jake was dead right to keep riding and he kept her going. Losing any momentum would have given the runner-up a chance. I'm delighted. I only got her two weeks before her run in the Curragh and it was her owner's (Pat Rohan, from Killaloe) plan to run in the Curragh. I didn't know much about her but she is genuine and lovely to train. Six furlongs at the Curragh was a probably a little short but seven (furlongs) is ideal. Thank God we found a winnable race and maybe Galway will be on the horizon now.

He loves that ground. He had two runs earlier in the year and we thought he was coming to himself, but the ground was good on those days. Since Galway, we’ve been waiting for a bit of soft ground for him - the softer it is the better. When I was coming down the road, and could see the floods the whole way, I was thinking we could be in business here today. Martin (Sheridan, owner) has been a big supporter of the yard and it’s great for him to have a horse like this. He’s getting a bit older and I was thinking ‘does he still have it?’. It’s great to see him bounce back there. He’s been a good servant. He won a big handicap in Haydock last year and the year before he won a premier handicap in Cork. Soft ground is the key to him. We’ll see what the handicapper does and try and find something similar. It’s his time of the year now and hopefully he can go in again.

It's lovely when you have one that's set up for it,. . I told the owner two months ago that I thought he was a Galway horse. He just scraped in at the bottom of the weights. There is a big long hill up there and you need to be able to stay and have the heart for it. . We put cheekpieces on him today, just to liven him up. At Fairyhouse the last day, he kind of half went to sleep and didn't know what he was doing. . The hardest part is to keep it rolling (good run of form). The wheels could come off the bus very easily. . We seem to have a nice team of horses and we have great staff. We don't have many new owners, lads have been with me for years. I wouldn't mind if someone came with a cheque book!
