We got his palate cauterised a month ago but he has run absolutely terribly since and we only ran here as the lads (owners) wanted a runner, as they were staying up. He ran on Tuesday night when he didn't stay and the ground was too soft, but was due to be dropped 2lb and I said we may as well run again. It was a surprise but is great and he isn't a bad horse at his best. Adam gave him a brilliant ride as well. The two (syndicate) lads, Donie O'Connell, who won two hurling All Irelands for Tipperary, and his friend Pat Leahy, are knocking a fair bit of fun out of him and are with me a long time now. It was a nice performance from a three-year-old to beat some hardened sprinters. He’s very consistent and we’ve a lot of options. He is entered in the horses-in-training sale at Newmarket and we’ve a good slot in that, three-quarters through the catalogue on the first day. That is an option and the owners will decide that. They’ve a very nice, fun, horse on their hands whatever they decide to do. He’ll go up in the handicap now. There is one race (Irish Lincoln) that comes to mind at the start of next season that could be an option for him now. We’ve been second and third in it a few years and we’d like to win it. All these Belardos keep improving. They like a bit of juice in the ground and the older they get the better they get. We’ve been very fond of the sire since we had Fiach McHugh that went on to win a Group 1 in Hong Kong after (as Red Lion).

Jack gave him a great ride. I told him to take his time as I knew there would be a good pace with Verhoyen in it,. It set up nicely for him and he just held on. It’s 13 months since he won and the handicapper has been slow to drop him. The horse is getting older and getting slower so he has to come down. I wasn’t really expecting it as I thought his last three runs were disappointing. He surprised me today but he likes it here so you never know. I think there is a race on the last day here but I might just leave him off after this. He probably only has another year in him as he’s turning 10 next year. He’s been a great servant to the yard.

Yeah it was fantastic,. He toughed it out well there. I knew he came out of the Listowel race well. He is an easy horse to train and I'm delighted for everyone involved. Billy said he won a bit snugly in Listowel. He was pulling up a bit at the line. He couldn't do that today though. He really had to knuckle down. We bought him in the July Sales two years ago on the back of being a half-brother to Inventor. We got him home, looked at him and liked him. A few of the lads got involved and we kept a share ourselves. I'm delighted.
