Formscan By Gary Carson - This looks like a penalty kick for STATE MAN on his seasonal debut. The Doctor Dino gelding was no match for the brilliant Constitution Hill in the Champion Hurdle last March but is a top performer in his own right and was a four-timer winner at Grade 1 level last term. He can repeat last year's victory in this. His rivals have the benefit of race-fitness but it would be a surprise if that made a difference. Stablemate Echoes In Rain, second in Group 3 company on the Flat last time, looks second best at the weights. Gordon Elliott also runs two and Pied Piper, who ran a cracker in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket last month, looks set to battle for the runner-up spot.
