Formscan By Michael Graham - GERRI COLOMBE showed some of his back class when runner-up in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse last month. He returns to a venue where is two from three and he ought to give Jack Kennedy a good spin. Nick Rockett needs this run to qualify for the Grand National at Aintree which he memorably landed last year. It is reasonable to assume that he will come on from the run as he hasn't been out since that famous Aintree success. Perceval Legallois looks clear next best in this small field, while the admirable Roi Mage won this race four years ago but is a 14-year-old now.

Quotes on Roi Mage (FR)
this lad was third in the Grande Steeple-Chase de Paris and was bought for the Grand National. That's what the owners want but he's not going to get in this year, although hopefully he will next year. He'll go for the Topham Chase next. Quotes on Nick Rockett (IRE)
I thought it was a nice performance, beating an Irish National winner in the process, and it was a nice trial for Aintree. I'm very pleased with him,. It was tough coming back from the Thyestes only four-and-a-bit weeks before. That was tough and should leave him spot on for Aintree. They were very tough conditions there and he'll probably take a little while to recover from that but he has the time. I was very impressed with how slick he jumped, his jumping was excellent. We aimed him for the Irish National last year but it didn't work. He's a horse I think has the potential to run well around Aintree. Bobbyjo winners have been lucky around there. We just need to get there and have a bit of luck in running. After Nick Rockett (IRE) finished 1st at Fairyhouse on Sat, 22nd Feb 2025 3m 1f Chase Soft

Quotes on Gerri Colombe (FR)
We were delighted with him – we knew there would be improvement in him today, his first run in open company. As Brian (Acheson, of owner Robcour) said, he only came back in on September 19, so there’s loads of improvement. We’ll have one run now and then the Gold Cup. He showed that he is in the mix now for the Gold Cup, he stays very well and that’s what you need. I was delighted that he settled into a rhythm, the other horse (Conflated) was going a bit left and was taking Jack’s horse’s eye off the fence a bit. I was a bit worried the whole way because Conflated does go left, but I did tell Jack to give him a bit of light and get him into a rhythm. Jack said he was a bit rusty early, but I thought he was pretty much foot-perfect apart from one for a novice stepping into open company. The sky is the limit. He’s a great horse because he shows you absolutely nothing at home – he’s very laid-back, he’s a gentleman. After Gerri Colombe (FR) finished 1st at Down Royal on Sat, 11th Nov 2023 3m Chase Soft

Quotes on Perceval Legallois (FR)
You wouldn’t think he was after running over fences, he was very nimble over hurdles. Obviously, he was off a lower mark. I thought coming here that he was a better chaser than a hurdler, but you can’t argue with that. He’s in the National and sure you’d have to consider it. It’s fantastic, it’s so hard to be competitive here so to win two races is brilliant. After Perceval Legallois (FR) finished 1st at Leopardstown on Sat, 1st Feb 2025 3m Hcap Hurdle Soft
