Sergei Diaghilev makes a winning start for O'Brien and Moore
We’re delighted with him, he hadn’t done an awful lot of work. He only stepped into main work in the last two weeks and he did a nice piece of work last Saturday. We knew he’d be very green and there is probably a lot to come from him. It was a nice introduction for him. All the horses that we are trying to get out now could be Ascot horses, but some of them will be too green and you’ll know when you run them if they won’t make it. I’m not sure with him. We ran him because we thought he could be a Coventry horse, Ryan wasn’t sure if he was going to know enough in time. Ryan said he’ll have no problem going seven. I’d imagine he’ll stick to six for the moment. He could improve so much. The horse that Jack (Cleary) rode (fourth-placed South Dakota) could be a Chesham horse, but we’ll see what will happen after his run.
Purview dynamite upped in trip
It was an excellent performance, he’s a lovely colt. He has matured and developed as I always thought he would. We’ve a lot to look forward to with him. He’s always been operating at Group level and he was just a big, immature, horse last year. He’s just matured nicely over the winter. This was his first time over a mile-and-a-half. I was always keen to try him over a mile-and-a-half. He settled beautifully, got a lovely ride from Colin, and you saw the rest. It’s something that we will reflect upon, discuss it with Barry (Mahon) and with the owners and decide. I think he’s a horse to look forward to. The ground is beautiful here at the Curragh today and that’s his ground.
Perry Mason gets the verdict at Headquarters
I’m delighted. He’s due that and he was knocking on the door in some big premier handicaps. He gave me my first winner here last year. I’m training exactly 12 months and he’s been good to me. I have a couple of jumpers but I like the Flat. We had to move out of Cork because of rapeseed and I’m based in Kildare for the last four or five weeks. It affected us big time. They came out of it, but there are still a few that wouldn’t be right and we had to let them off. I’m right next to Kildangan Stud. We have good facilities, a swimming pool and a deep Wexford sand gallop. We have use of all the Curragh gallops, which is gold. I’ve 14 in training and looking for more. There are plenty of empty boxes and plenty of horses there for people to get involved with. I bought this lad in Tattersalls last July for 3,500gns. He had a real good maiden run against good horses. I went to look at him and said ‘he’s coming home’.
Moore at double on Comanche Brave
Moore fires in treble through hot-favourite Gstaad in Guineas
He’s a lovely uncomplicated horse and Ryan gave him a beautiful ride. He’s very straightforward and genuine. All the team around him do a great job, there are so many people involved with him and thanks to them. Obviously, he was in Coolmore as well from the time he was a foal. He’s a lovely horse and we always thought that he would end up even getting a bit further than a mile. Ryan was very happy today, he said he was a little bit lazy through the middle of the race but when he got him opened up he went to the line very well. We’re delighted. He got beat in three Group One's last year and we felt that he was a little bit unlucky in the three. We were delighted that he held on to go to America, and he won his Group One. Sometimes when that happens horses don’t get it back, but we felt there were circumstances every day he got beat. He’s very straightforward, he just needs a little bit of room to get going. Sometimes if it gets too tactical or if he gets caught up in pace that wasn’t strong early (it doesn't suit). He’s probably stronger now and the Curragh was lovely. Ryan was drawn wide, and you’d say that would be a disadvantage to some horses, but it was lovely for him because he was going to get a clear run and the pace was nice. Ryan said the best feel he ever gave him was when he won the Coventry, so you’d hope that he’d be very happy to go back to Ascot. The horse we ran in the French Guineas (Puerto Ri
Causeway battles home for Moore's four-timer and O'Brien's treble
We knew he’d stay very well. I left the cheekpieces off him today, when he was going up to a mile-and-a-quarter, and he is very lazy. He (Moore) was very happy with him. We always thought as he went up (in trip) he would get better. He’s a lovely, honest-to-God, horse. Ryan gave him a lovely straightforward, uncomplicated, ride.
Invincible Will pops up for Cromwell and Kearney
He’s been a frustrating horse. The last day in Naas Robbie (Whearty) rode him and he was almost a runaway, and he’s done that a few days. We’ve done a lot of work with him at home, and we’ve even schooled him over hurdles and fences to settle his head a bit. There was plenty of pace on there today, which was ideal. It’s grand that he hung on anyway. A mile is no problem to him as long as they go a gallop. He’s learning to settle better.
Headmaster rules the roost in valuable Habitat Handicap
I’d love to take any credit, but I can’t. This is Sarah’s (Lynam, daughter) horse really, she bought him, and I’m only in charge of who mucks him out!. Sarah does all the work with him. She made a very good decision because a couple of weeks ago he worked poorly, he was going for this race, and she said ‘we’re not going to work him again’. With all my years of experience, I said ‘that’s a clueless thing to do', but anyway we’d run with it, so she knows what she’s doing. Fair play to her. A small trainer in England (William Haggas) had him! I like the pedigree, the mam won the (Prix de la) Foret three times. I’ll have to do what I’m told with him, but the programme writes itself.
Browne McMonagle doubles up on Count Bezukhov
He had a nice run on debut. He probably wanted to be going further rather than shorter, but we were happy that the Curragh would suit him and he boxed on well - all the way to the line. He’s a tough horse, a staying type, and he’ll probably end up in a stakes race now. There is a mile-and-five Listed race in Leopardstown, but that might come a bit soon - but it will be something like that for his next start.
