Duke's Clemencia turns over odds-on favourite Pasley
He is certainly a Triumph Hurdle horse without any question or doubt, . I was heart-broken the first day in Down Royal and I thought for the first day at the races he didn't get a very sympathetic ride. I did expect him to win, I'm not going to tell that I didn't, but there was also a horse running away upsides him. I'm lucky it's coming up to Christmas and I'm off the hook with Jim (Bolger, owner)! He is like the trainer, big and backward and will take time and this is a nice horse and with a little bit of luck you'll hear plenty more about him. He has been schooling him since last January and the lads at home did a great job with him. He is talented and just needs to be lucky in his life. Jim likes going to Leopardstown at Christmas but I might keep him until the Dublin Racing Festival instead. It's odds-on now Santa will come.
Donkey Years wins easily on debut for Eric and Conor McNamara
it was a good performance and he did it well, . We liked him a lot and while we didn't think he'd do that, he was showing us a lot at home and we like him. His dam is a sister to Rock On Ruby so is obviously well bred and he jumped great and travelled well and hopefully he has a future. He must have had niggly problems as he is a five year old going on six but I only have him for four or five months and he is a fine big good looking horse and is a good horse. I don't know where we go next but we'll find a winners' race for him somewhere. It is nice to have a nice horse.
Well Set Up follows Listed win with Grade 3 success at Cork
She is a very tough mare and is an out-and-out stayer, . We were a little bit worried because they went no gallop but she also showed a turn of foot to win and I'm delighted. She is tough and grinds it out and is a hardy bit of stuff. There is the Dorans Pride Novice Hurdle for her next at Limerick over Christmas or else she could for the 2m4f Grade 1 novice at Naas in January but she'll tell us where to go. It is a good boost for her owner/breeder Jean Corrigan who couldn't make it down today.
Unlucky Aintree loser wins Cork handicap hurdle
Champion Trainer wins both Irish feature races
it was a good performance and he always promised plenty. It was a pity he missed most of last season but he making up for it now and I'd imagine Willie will find another similar contest for him and hopefully he'll continue stepping up the ladder. You'd hope he will reach Grade 1 standard — he has done it over hurdles and he jumps fences well. For a small field it was a very competitive race today.
Elimay a Grade 3 winner on chasing debut
The Cronin family's winning streak continues with Southerner
He needs plenty ease in the ground, . He had injury problems as a young horse and we had him right last winter but just never got the ground. We always thought he had ability, he was fourth in a bumper and his runs in maiden hurdles weren't too bad. He could drop back to two miles as he was hard on himself there and is not short of pace at that level. It mightn't have been the strongest race and he'll probably go to Limerick at Christmas next.
