Goldrush Kid makes all to win the opener at Laytown
He's not a bad horse. He had a mishap in Bellewstown where he bled but, before that, he was fifth in a 23-runner handicap. We just gave him a good break and just brought him back with this race in mind. I've only had two runners up here and both of them have won. We'll try and go again next year!. I'd definitely be pushing for more of these low-grade claimers. I would second what Ger Lyons said a couple of weeks ago. The optional claimers, I don't know what the theory is and I've spoken to a few people, and no-one can explain it to me. We need races for these lower-grade horses. I'd say this horse will be claimed and, if he is, best of luck to them. I was actually going to claim a horse out of it and changed my mind late on. I wouldn't mind a five grand horse, it is not going to break the bank. Jack was very good on him and he has ridden this horse all along. He is a big part of the team and I’m delighted for him. My dad owns it, so brilliant.
Verhoyen retired after game Laytown success
We are going to retire him now, retire him on a high. He was a Scurry winner (as a four-year-old in 2019) and black-type as a two-year-old. He is for life with us. He has come down in the ratings and one thing is that he loves the beach. He was always too highly rated to run here. With age though, he has just fallen down. I was worried earlier in the year that I was going to struggle to win (again) with him. He just wasn't performing the way he was working at home. He stuck at it well.
Initial Blue a dream result for US owner Staton Flurry at Laytown
I couldn't walk by the bookies and leave them 'unpestered', he was an incredible price!. It is great when a plan comes off, it was 100 per cent a plan. I went to Newmarket two months ago to buy Staton a horse to get to Laytown. He has come all the way from Arkansas and is a great supporter of the yard, I’m just thrilled for him.
Mulligan off the mark on Laytown debut
Family success as Chavajod wins at Laytown
That’s our first winner in Laytown. It means a lot to everyone, means a lot to the family. It has been challenging back across the water, so for me to get a winner is big as well.
