The Good Wife wins Punchestown's opener
The Good Wife is tough, had a good run in Galway and she is a mile-and-a-quarter or mile-and-a-half filly for next year. She had six weeks to fill back up after Galway and I think she has a bit of class. She was drawn in 1 so I told Billy not to waste the draw and while she doesn’t know loads, she knew enough. In the last couple of years, my first-time-out two-year-olds haven’t been too streetwise and generally improve plenty, and she has come on nicely. She has a bit of size and scope and I think she’ll stay. I just told the owners that I wouldn’t be fussed about running her again this year but she could run in the Silken Glider. I’ll think about it and I’d say we’ll go into the winter after that. You’d then have a nice filly for an Oaks trial next spring.

the race worked out perfectly for Sanctijude as they went a good pace early on and Billy was able to sit on her. She seemed to like that bit of ease in the ground. I said to Michael Deegan (owner) half-way around that we’d find out whether she wants 1m1f or not, as they went a good gallop from the start, which seemed to suit her. She’s a consistent filly, if not a bit unlucky, as when she hits the front, she downs tools a little bit. We’ll find something similar in the near future, now that the ground has come for her.
Rogers’ Boy on the mark for new owners
Siobhan gave him a good ride and knew what she was doing before she went out. She was keeping on the fresher ground. She’s a good lassie and horses run for her. The last day in Navan, he was only beaten seven-and-a-half lengths and had got stopped a few times and I thought coming here, if there was a little ease in the ground, it would suit him. I’m delighted for the two boys (owners Flanagan and Tighe) as it’s the first time they’ve been in a horse and they only have him about three months. He’ll probably turn out again at Dundalk on Friday, we’ll take a chance.
