Leadlight rallies for last-gasp success
He was a little bit unfortunate the last day, so it was good to get compensation and he was very strong coming up the hill today. This looked a better race on paper, although I don't know how deep it was. He has a rating of 80 and I don't know if he has gone much beyond that, but he stays very well. He is still a baby, he'll be a middle-distance horse next year and should continue to progress with racing. He'd love that ground and I'd say we'll get as many runs in as we can before the end of the season.
The Curragh beckons for Galway winner Lord Massusus
It was a nice race to win for the horse's mentality. He ran well here during the festival, and Galway this year has been my Ascot!. We love him, he is a family horse so we are able to forgive him and he won well today. He is in the Northfields at the weekend and, years ago, you'd be killed (by the handicapper) for winning this and then running in a big handicap. He has a 7lb penalty, which knocks him out a bit, but I don't see why he won't run.
Kevin Doyle and Aquilla Star off the mark
Mary Doll battles well for 66/1 success at Galway
She had an away day at Dundalk and a barrier trial done, so we wanted to deliver first time, so this is great. To do it for the Hylands is great too, as they have been great supporters of mine since day one. We were conscious of the rain arriving and wanted to use Rory, as he is riding exceptionally and has ridden some very good races for us recently. Ireland is a tough jurisdiction to be campaigning two-year-olds, that's what we're all about and this filly is very much on the market. Hitting the (first) 'three' or the 'five' was the objective, but Rory did well from a wide draw and I just think she was the superior filly in the race. She has a lot of filling out to do and will be a filly for 10 furlongs next year. I know people have their opinions on her sire Waldgeist, but she is tenacious and has done it very professionally.
Double for Rory Mulligan as Bang Po strikes
I had lots of winners here at the festival down through the years and remember giving Brazilian jockey Valdir De Souza a high-profile win on Peculiar Prince in 2005. Bang Po is just coming to himself as, for a long time, he didn't want to know about it. His sire Cotai Glory is a bloody good stallion and gets winners every day. I have yearlings for sales nowadays, for the Orby Sales and that, but could do with a few new owners if there's anybody out there. My daughter Pamela works for the IHRB and is the judge today, so this is fantastic. Rory is a next-door neighbour of mine; I know his dad well and we were all reared together. He is a great little rider.
Easy for Beset in Galway feature race
This is great as everyone involved has had to be patient. After her run in the Mooresbridge, we said we wouldn't race her again until the ground was soft, as she is really effective on it. We wanted to have her fresh for a good autumn and while it would have been great to find a Group race, this fitted in lovely. She was carrying a penalty, but it was an easy race to watch and she was impressive. We'll swing big now and the Prix de Royallieu on Arc weekend fits in with the timings. That's where we'd love to go and I don't think there is anything suitable in between. After that, we have Champions Day at Ascot and there's also a Group 1 in Germany in November. I wouldn't like to rule out bringing her back in next year, as fillies who like soft ground are so hard to find. She is a queen. Mikey Wilson, from ITV, brought the owners together and they include Emma Palmer, whose Le Breuil won the National Hunt Chase in 2019, and Nick Luck. We are all pals and our first horse Lady Of The Lamp is now at home, and in foal to Sea The Stars.
Coulstys Way lays down the law
She has been unlucky all year; she didn't get much of a run in Listowel and I trained her for the festival here in July but she got brought down, when I think she'd have finished second. It is great to get that and Charles Cranston and his mates have been very patient. She loves soft ground, so she'll be kept busy now and will rock on to Listowel.
Listed challenge at Naas awaits Zadawa after Galway romp
She did it well and had run a very good race when finishing second in Cork. She stays well, loves a mile and four furlongs and the Bluebell Stakes at Naas has been on my mind for a while, and today won't change my mind. We'll decide on next year after Naas.
