I looked at the big screen after the race and I couldn’t believe he was 11-1. I thought he was one of ours coming here with a really good chance. You never have a banker coming to Cheltenham, but I thought he would be 2-1 or 3-1 max after his run at the Dublin Racing Festival. I wasn’t tipping him to my friends as I thought he’d be too short for them – they’re all very poor!. I said after the Leopardstown that he would step forward. I thought he was a little short going into that and I expected him to improve. I think Paul chose to ride this horse straight away, there was no debate, and I thought the same – to me this fellow was head and shoulders above a lot of the horses here. It’s great for the Turleys after the disappointment (with Galopin Des Champs) earlier in the week, it’s fantastic for them to have a winner here.

THE TURNERS NOVICES' HURDLE RACE (CLASS 1) (Grade 1) (Registered as The BARING BINGHAM NOVICES' HURDLE RACE) (GBB RACE) Permission was given for Bossman Jack (GB), Hurricane Pat (IRE), I'll Sort That (IRE), Klimt Madrik (FR), and Soldier Reeves (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
Ballyfad (IRE) was kicked by another runner at the start.
Having been checked by the Veterinary Surgeon at the start, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
The Starter reported that Jack Kennedy, the rider of Ballyfad (IRE), Mr D.
Queally, the rider of I’LL SORT THAT (IRE), Danny Gilligan, the rider of Skylight Hustle (IRE), and Darragh O’Keeffe, the rider of Walks In June (IRE), had not approached the tape at a walk or a jig-jog thereby causing a false start, resulting in a standing start.
The riders and the Starters were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident after which Kennedy and Mr Queally were suspended for 1 day for misconduct at the Start; and Gilligan and O'Keeffe were suspended for 2 days for misconduct at the Start, this being their second offence in 12 months.
An enquiry was held into a complaint received from Mr D.
Queally, the rider of I'll Sort That (IRE), regarding an incident at the Start.
The Stewards, having heard the initial evidence from Queally and Nico de Boinville, the rider of Act Of Innocence (IRE), adjourned the matter to obtain further evidence.
At the top of hill on the final circuit, Klimt Madrik (FR), placed eighth, and Zeus Power (GER), placed third, were hampered by a weakening Walks In June (IRE), unplaced, which was going backwards through the field, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The performance of No Drama This End (IRE), which started favourite and was pulled up, was considered.
Paul Nicholls’ explanation that, having been squeezed out at the start, the gelding was further back than intended, and continued to meet trouble in running thereafter, was noted.
No Drama This End (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Mr P W Mullins reported that Sober (FR), unplaced, had jumped poorly.
