One And Only
This morning I wondered should we run the horse on this bottomless ground, but he galloped through it. We left all the headgear off him today and I thought he did it very genuinely. There weren't many of our horses right this season and he wasn't 100 per cent either and at Fairyhouse the last day, a horse fell in front of him and he was pulled up. He is a fine big horse and is athletic looking.

Live To Laugh
Ethan gave him a great ride but unfortunately his grandad died yesterday, so it will give his family a lift,. He wanted to ride today and this is his first winner for me, which is great. Ethan started off with me as a Flat apprentice, moved home to Waterford and is now back with me for the past couple of weeks. Live To Laugh has been very consistent and is knocking on the door the whole time. I thought his first run over fences was good and he was then unlucky when a horse jumped across him here in January (causing him to fall). I think they will have good fun with him, I don't think he is ground-dependent or anything, so I hope he will win a few races. He is owned by a good bunch of lads from all everywhere and anywhere.

Hesgonethatway
He’s a big raw horse, a big weak horse. At one stage last year I was nearly thinking of pulling the plug on him and then we gave him the summer off. They are a great bunch of lads (Night Owls Syndicate) to train for. They were hugely patient with him and he’s just improved as the winter has gone on. He’s a weak five-year-old and hopefully he’ll keep improving away. I thought he’d run well today but I thought there would be an older, stronger, horse that would handle the ground a little bit better and that we might be placed. To be fair to Brian, he gave him a very good ride. I told him to take his time and go wide. I’m delighted for Brian as well. He rang me a few weeks ago to see if there would be a position in the yard for him. He’s just coming to me a day a week. I told him maybe next October we might use him a little bit more or have him in the yard a little bit more. At the moment we have a very happy settled camp, so the only position was for somebody to ride in a 7lb claimers race. That was his first ride for me so hopefully he’ll be happy.

The Wager
I think I’m blowing harder than he is. I didn’t want to hit the front too soon, because when he ran for Pat, he hit the front and idled. You saw when he hit the front today he pricked his ears, I think there is plenty there and he’ll improve with racing. He’s still very babyish. It was a great run in Punchestown but, with the benefit of knowing what he did that day, I didn’t want to get to the front too soon on him, not that I could have got to the front much sooner anyway. I think he won more comfortably than it perhaps looked. Harold Kirk bought the dam because she was a sister to Pont Alexander. Luke and Philip Reynolds kept her and bred from her. It’s great to get a winner in these colours, some of my favourite winners were in these. Luke is in sunnier climes, but hopefully he’s watching on.

Ill Raise A Glass
She did it well. She won a bumper very well last year and she was a bit weak, she’s strengthening up great this year. I’m not working her that hard. I expected her to come on a lot from the last day and I think she’ll come on from this today as well. We’ll see where she takes us now, she’ll tell us. We might look for a novice hurdle somewhere and it would be nice to get a bit of black-type. John Hennessy owns her and he bred her. Eric Kenneally owns a share in her as well and Eddie Kenneally trains in America.

Harry's Dream
The Donnellys (owners) are amazing girls who rang me up initially to buy a quarter of him, then half an hour later to buy half, but after another half-hour, they bought all of him. The family live in my own part of the woods in Wicklow, and it is very much a girl team, so they like to support lady riders. Anna is a great rider and that's her first winner for me. He had been placed in bumpers and ran very well in a maiden hurdle, but then disappointed. He ran a good race the last day and I'd say racing down the hill helped today. He struggles on good ground because of his conformation, and struggles on heavy due to his wind, so we found his day, thank God. He'll stay doing what he's doing now.
