Ava Rose that was heart-stopping stuff and is a big relief. She is a homebred; her owner Tom O'Brien is a vet in Midleton and himself and his wife breed off a couple of mares. Ava Rose is named after her owners' grand-daughter Ava who is in Australia. She has a lovely pedigree and is related to Watson Lake and the biggest problem with her is trying to get her to settle; she is very buzzy. We rode her completely different the last day because it wasn't working on any of her previous runs and we said we'd take a punt and drop her out last. They got away on her from the front end and today we took a punt again to ride her the same way but to ride to see what the pace of the race was. Philip gave her an absolute peach of a ride and that's why we have the likes of him riding for us with his experience as a senior rider.

Queens Brook She was the one horse that came back in looking like a broodmare,. I wanted to run her to try and have her back for Down Royal. We knew she was only 75 or 80 per cent fit. Davy said she blew up twice. He said if she was fit and right he should have been letting her stride on four or five out but he was sitting against her. He said she had two blows but jumped great, did everything right and only got tired. We didn't want to make it but there was no pace. We knew coming here today she was only three-quarters fit and thankfully it's job done. She's a nice mare and she's one to look forward to. I'd say when she gets two-and-a-half miles she's going to be class, in a true run race. She just did what she had to do. Davy said she had to do everything he didn't want to do. He said he was never going to get beat but that she did get tired.

Shewearsitwell It was a good performance and she's improving all the time. She's a sharp little jumper and that was a huge benefit to her in this contest, stepping up in grade. At least I know now that she's competitive over the minimum trip, so I wouldn't be afraid to keep her at that trip. I'll have a word with Paul though because he said she was probably going as fast as she was able to, so when the better hurdlers come out it might be difficult. So far, so good. We're very happy for Closutton Racing Club as it's their first graded winner. It's good to have a nice mare for them. We'll try and keep her to mares’ company and she'll have to go up in grade now. The dream would be to be good enough to run in the Royal Bond. She's good enough to run in it now anyway and that will be in the back of our minds. We might try and find something between now and then for her. Timewise Down Royal could be a possibility for her.

Red Iron We were looking at an unplaced maiden hurdle if she hadn't won today. She had some nice form to her name and suffered a bit with sore shins and little things like that. Things came together for her today. I'd say the quick ground was a big help and she stayed wide on the faster part of it. I'd say she'll come back here for a maiden hurdle next month. We haven't enough in at the moment and it's a big struggle but we'll make the best of it.

Sheer Liss We always thought a lot of her at home. Her point-to-point form wasn’t great but she always showed us plenty. We are delighted with her now. They probably just didn’t go as quick for her (in Galway) but definitely the better gallop here suited her. Patrick Casey, representing

Dysart Diamond Paul tells me she did it well. By the time I was through the gate and registered she was jumping the last. Paul was quite happy with how she jumped and we'll just go on novice hurdling with her now. She had been consistent in bumpers and I think she'll be fine over hurdles, she'll earn her keep.

Shewearsitwell The syndicate was resurrected recently by James Fenton, having had winners in the past with O'Hana in 2007 and they have a couple of nice mares. This mare had been working very well at home and I think she'll win plenty more races. She was very professional out in front and she has plenty of gears. I think she could be a black-type mare, and could possibly get it in something like the Gowran Listed Bumper (in October).
