Down Royal Sun, 17th Mar, 2024  St Denis's Well I was very confident coming up here today - a few boys weren't and were saying why I was going up into this grade, but sure you have to. There wasn't much coming up for him so we took our chance and he did it well. He was a good winner that day (over hurdles in Navan) and it was a bit unexpected. Then Jack won two chases on him in three days. We freshened him up there for today. I think the plan is Cartmel in May - there's a bunch of boys will wreck the place win, lose or draw!. Even with Crawford's horse falling, we had him well covered but it would have been nicer to get a lead for a bit longer because he doesn't like being in front. I'd say Jack was happy I had the cheekpieces on him today. He had a bad run the last day in Leopardstown, but it didn't suit as they hacked and he just stays all day. He's not ground dependent, he was just too weak to handle the soft. He has strengthened up now and he can handle it. Good horses will go on any ground!. They are a syndicate from Clogherhead and they will enjoy tonight.

Naas Sat, 10th Feb, 2024  Glen Kiln we jumped on the Harry Kelly bandwagon! . He’s a seriously good trainer. he got a good ride and it’s been a great week. I said to Carl going out ‘don’t let it turn into a sprint’ and as the old cliché goes he’ll make a great chaser. He gallops away on loose reins and it’s just pure stamina. To look at him he has the model of a chaser.

Punchestown Mon, 29th Jan, 2024  Folly Master He's a fine horse. He won his point-to-point around Bartlemy, which is one of the stiffest and best tracks in the country. It says in the form it was yielding, but it was heavy ground on the day so we had no fear about trip. We actually ran him over shorter to try and sharpen him up. He'd turned into a three-mile chaser before he was a three-mile chaser, so we tried to run him in good two-mile maiden hurdles and I think it's made a man of him. Three miles in those conditions suited and good owners make all the difference as well. You always hear 'he's going to be a chaser', but I'll chat to Keith and we won't rush with him. We'll look for another hurdle over three miles on heavy ground again somewhere.

Down Royal Tue, 23rd Jan, 2024  St Denis's Well I don't know what he beat today, they were an average bunch and while he's no world-beater, he's still weak and raw and will come on again. Jack was as cool as a cucumber on him. I think we'll stay chasing over 2m4f to three miles although will probably get a small break. He does get through that ground, but he'll go on better ground.

Navan Sat, 20th Jan, 2024  St Denis's Well All the lads drink in Declans Bar in Clogherhead so they'll have a few pictures for the wall now and they are all happy men. He did it well and I was delighted. We were confident coming here, he's always jumped well. We were humming and hawing before we came to the track whether we'd run him in a point-to-point. He had jumped plenty of fences, he's probably jumped 200 fences by now, so we had no real fear that way. He made one little mistake and Jack said it was his own fault as he should have kept going forward on him. He did it easy and he might run under a penalty on Tuesday at Down Royal, we'll see how he comes out of it. Then he'll get a holiday, he'll be a stronger horse next year.
