Nos Na Gaoithe It was a good performance. She'd hit the crossbar over hurdles already but has always run well. Her jumping was fine for the most part. I'd say the odd one I missed was probably due to being on her own in front. If I'd had company, she would have been perfect. She handled the ground this evening which is fairly lively out there. Hopefully she'll build on that and find a nice novice (hurdle) somewhere in the autumn. |

No Risk No Fun He’s a nice horse and could be a Graded horse. He does it nicely on the racetrack. The second horse stayed with him all the way up the straight. The winner just had too many gears for him but the second looks a real chaser in the making. The winner looks a hurdler rather than a chaser. We’ll look at whether we go for a third bumper or give him a little break and then go hurdling. It’s been a fantastic week. All my neighbours had plenty of winners as well as ourselves. Emmet and the Shark had a good week and there was a great spread of winners throughout the week. The win of Echoes In Rain in the Connacht Hotel Amateur Handicap would have to be the highlight and it was a race that Patrick long wanted to win. It’s great that the crowds are back and the craic and atmosphere is back in Galway. |

Carrigmoorna Queen It was a very nice performance and she built on her first run. The rain was a nice advantage for her, coming when it did. Patrick kept it simple and she galloped the whole way to the line. I think she's a mare to go off jumping hurdles now. She has a lovely stout jumping pedigree. She has size and scope and I think she'll go on through the winter. That's our plan anyway. |

What Path It's just taken him a while to learn how to race. He looks like a typical Coastal Path, a nice galloper and he likes good ground. He jumps well at home,. It's nice for Michael (Masterson), he was 30 years coming to Galway and never had a winner and that's now two in the one week after the horse yesterday (Champ Kiely). This fella looks like he'll make a nice chaser in time. He has size, scope and goes on nice ground. He could be a horse to come back here for a Plate in the future. |

Dads Lad It surprised me to see him entered for it, as Patrick (Mullins) had him put in for a day out for the syndicate! . He disappointed me early on but is improving all the time and it is a fantastic day for Liam Cullinan and his syndicate (Whitegrass Racing) and for Ruth Dudfield, who came in for the ride which Patrick organised. Ruth is with us for a couple of years and gets on great with this horse at home. She broke well in the race and held her position the whole way. I was afraid she would get swallowed up on the hill but she kept nudging her nose out and kept him in a position. |

Rock Road That was another nice surprise in the manner he did it,. You're hoping that if he could bring his chase form to hurdles he could do something like that but you don't expect to do that around Galway. Patrick (Mullins) usually manages Simon's (Wilson, owner) horses and I'll let them decide if he runs again on Saturday but we'll see how he comes out of the race. He has a nice mark for Saturday and after today I'd imagine he won't have it again for a while, so maybe we'll take our chance and run. |

Champ Kiely I was hoping he'd win but didn't think he'd do anything like that and he has moved up a few places amongst our novice hurdlers for this year. That looked very good. There was a lot of confidence behind the favourite (Dawn Rising) and to come out and beat a 102-rated Flat horse like that was very good. I'll have a chat with Michael (Masterson, owner) and go through all the rest of the horses for the year before making a plan but he looks a smart type. |

Echoes In Rain I wasn't sure which horse to shout for as my wife owns the second! Anyhow, I'm delighted he won it and delighted for the owners in Barnane Stud in Templemore, who have a very good flat enterprise. She is high quality, is a little temperamental in her races but Patrick said they went fast enough to get her settled. He stayed wide and out of trouble. The first and second came from 21 and 22 which hasn't been done in years, if it has ever been done, but the race is changing and becoming a higher quality race every year. Maze Runner ran a cracker and I'm delighted for Eliott Ohgren, a top class Swedish amateur, who has been with us for a year. this race has been a fixture of Galway for many years and Connacht Hotel are great sponsors to keep the tradition going. |
