Formscan By Stuart Howden - CAUSE FOR COMMENT holds every chance back at this level. He struggled in a tougher contest behind Wonderwall at Punchestown last time, but landed a maiden hunters chase over these fences in March and could prove tough to beat in this company. Fortune Lad has won three times between the flags and could feature on his debut over regulation fences. He's preferred to Dorking Cock and last year's winner Asphalt Cowboy.

A steeplechase for ] Certified Hunters five years old and upwards that have between 1st October, 2022 and 17th May, 2026 been placed either first, second, third or fourth in a Point-to-Point Steeplechase or in a Certified Hunters Steeplechase in Ireland or Great Britain and that have not won a race under any N.H. Rules or Rules of Racing after 1st March, 2025 other than a Certified Hunters Steeplechase or a Farmers Race
Weights - 12st. Mares allowed 7lbs.
Riders - Qualified Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules. ? A Hunters Certificate valid in accordance with Rule 78 for the 2025/2026 season for each horse engaged must be registered at the Offices of the INHSC, The Curragh, Co. Kildare not later than 15th May, 2026 or the horse will not be qualified to start. In the case of horses from Great Britain, Hunters Certificates must have been duly registered at the Racing Calendar Office. The IHRB have modified the relevant Rules to permit horses for which Hunters Certificates have been registered and which are eligible to run in Hunters Steeplechases in Great Britain to run in this race. However, horses with a Hunters Certificate that have run in any race other than a Hunters Steeplechase since 1st December, 2025 are excluded. A person who is registered as a current Keeper with the British Horseracing Authority may enter and run a horse in this race.

I've always thought a bit of him. We bought him as a hunter chaser but nothing ever worked out. The day I bought him in Doncaster I thought he was a horse for either a Welsh National or a Foxhunters. Due to covid he was late to get going and after running so well so well at Down Royal on Boxing Day - when narrowly touched off by Vaucelet, I set my stall out to go to Cheltenham but he wasn't the same horse last spring. He's back to his normal self again and for the age of him (nine-year-old) he's not overly raced. The hunter chase scene at the moment is very hot and I thought he was well treated for a handicap. I have him in the Welsh National and I'd say we'll probably try and aim for that. He has jumped well around the (Aintree) national fences but he'd need a wet spring and to climb up in the weights to get into a National. He's a far better jumper of a fence than a hurdle but it's good to get on the winning groove today.
