THE JCB HYDROGEN NOVICES' HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner, Largy Go (IRE), ridden by Jonjo O’Neill Jr interfered with Mighty Fleur (GB), placed second, ridden by Shane Fenelon which, as a result, became short of room on the rail and had to take a check.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Largy Go (IRE)’s placing as that gelding appeared to be travelling strongly and came from behind a hard ridden MIGHTLY FLEUR on the approach to the final flight and had already asserted at the time of the incident to go on to win by 2 ½ lengths.
The interference was found to be accidental in that O’Neill was taking reasonable steps to attempt to prevent Largy Go (IRE) from hanging left-handed.
