The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Liam Walsh, that Mr D.J. Benson, rider of Classic Shantou, had weighed in at 1.1lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount had perspired profusely and a light cloth had been added to his equipment unknown to him and this had absorbed the moisture. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr D.J. Benson was in breach of Rule 231 and cautioned him having taken his previous record into consideration. .

Weights - 4-y-o 10st 8lb; 5, 6 and 7-y-o 11st 2lb
Penalties - Winner of an I.N.H. Flat Race or a National Hunt flat race 7lb extra
Riders - Qualified under I.N.H.S. Rules Professional under I.N.H.S. Rules (other than Apprentices) who have not lost the right to claim the 7lb allowance under Rule 52 (iii) (up to and including 22nd May) may also ride in this race.
