He’s a gorgeous horse, he’s a model,. Kevin and Anna (Ross — daughter) bought him as a yearling and they couldn’t sell him in Doncaster as a three-year-old. Harold Kirk said he’d come back and buy him after he won his point-to-point but he came into us broken and (son) JD took a fancy to him. He has a good pal Jonathan Duffy and he recommended he buy him. The whole family have contributed. I’m delighted for Jonathan. He’ll have one more run and he’ll go chasing next year. You can see the way he jumps there. He’s a joy to train, never turns a hair. He was just a bit of a baby up in the north and ran a bit keen. Ricky said he was actually a bit asleep in front today. In our last nine runners I think we’ve had five seconds, three thirds and a fourth. It’s nice to get the head in front. We’ll see what mark he gets now. We’ll maybe see if there is something over Easter for him at Fairyhouse or Cork, once the ground stays soft. Two miles is fine for him and over fences that will be fine. He can work up from there. I’d like to start at two, ideally at Navan where we started Klairon (Davis), Native Upmanship and Soft Day and a few others. It’s a lovely track but that’s a long way away. Ricky gave him a lovely ride. He’s very under-rated, he got the fractions right and is a very good horseman. I’m lucky to have him riding for me.

It was a nice performance, hopefully now he’s just coming to himself,. I think he should improve again for a bit of nicer ground as the spring goes on. The final of this series in Punchestown is going to be the big aim for him. We had him qualified already and this race just fitted in nicely. It was a taking performance and it was nice to see him hit the line the way he did. The first day we drew a line through it. We bounced out to make all and he didn’t have the experience under his belt to manage with it, and his jumping was terrible on the day. We’ve ironed that out since. We’ve sat on our hands for as long as we could waiting for nicer ground but it didn’t materialise so we ended up getting him out today and taking a chance.

It was a gritty performance. He’s been knocking on the door in a few nicer races,. It’s a great win to get for Robert, to get him qualified for Cheltenham. I’d say he should take his place in the Pertemps Final, once he gets into the race. Hopefully that won’t leave a mark on him but he is a tough, hardy, horse. Fingers crossed we can be competitive. If it was slower ground he is a thorough stayer. Ground dependent, I’d give him a chance. He’ll be a real nice staying chaser next year. Fingers crossed there might be a nice staying handicap chase in him somewhere along the line.

He needs a bit of nicer ground and needs a trip. Looking at him today I think he needs a fence too, but I’ll wait until the new season comes in. We’ll find a nice hurdle race between now and the end of Punchestown (festival). Possibly something in Fairyhouse for him. He didn’t enjoy Mallow. He didn’t take Paul along at all, so we took the hood off him today and I think it made a big difference. He was always very free, but he’s changed now. He’s more mature and is settling in his races, so it makes him easier to ride. It probably wasn’t the highest standard of race either. He’s improving and maybe the ones around him aren’t. I was happy to get that and I think his future might lie over fences.

I’m trying to buy horses that are not obvious, I’m trusting what my friends are telling me and it’s working out well. he’s not this year’s horse and is for jumping a fence in a year’s time. He’s only four and is 17 hands. He loved the soft ground and stayed going well. He did things wrong, so there is a lot of improvement to come from him but there needs to be. Tommy (Ward, owner) loves his racing, he eats and sleeps racing. He's not into golf or anything else, only the racing. It is great to see him get success. He gets a great kick out of it. It is owners that make racing and Tommy is so loyal to me. Very much appreciated (EBF sponsorship today) for these horses. Shane is from Monaghan and he would have started off with Anthony (McCann) and then he came down to the RACE school. He did his year in RACE and such a pity it is not there (anymore) because we used to always get jockeys coming through. It was a great grounding and you'd love to see it come back, and I hope it does come back. It needs to come back. Shane did his grounding there and got pupil of the year. He went to me for a while, then went back to Anthony for a stint, and then came back to me again. Great fella and a very hard worker. Lovely ride today on a horse that is not very straightforward. He is on and off the bridle, he is a little bit of a monkey, hence the cheekpieces. He had to give him a little flick through the race to kind of keep him concentrating. He saves plenty for himself, but fair play to Shane. The horse caught him out the last day in Thurles, but he learned from that. He knew exactly what he was going to do with him today.

She needs nice ground and she put up a nice performance there. From a long way out I thought she was travelling and jumping very well, she was really enjoying it. It was an ordinary race she won in Clonmel and we were a bit disappointed in Naas but in fairness Phillip said ‘don’t worry about it’ as she needs a bit of nice ground. I have to give him the credit. I might go to Fairyhouse with her, there is a three-mile novice handicap there and she might get into that now. She hasn’t ran that often. That’s only her fourth run over hurdles and she’s won two races now.
