The racing in Ireland on Saturday is hosted by Navan and, if they pass their inspection, the conditions are going to be very testing.

Our first race is a maiden hurdle at 13:18 and the action concludes with a mares’ handicap chase at 16:43.

There are two races of note on the card; the first of which is the Grade 3 Flyingbolt Novice Chase and the second is the Grade 2 Webster Cup Chase.

Here are four strong fancies from across the card and they can be combined to form a Lucky 15 on Saturday.

Saturday’s Lucky 15 Tips

  • 14:25 Navan - Showurappreciation
  • 15:00 Navan - San Hilario
  • 15:35 Navan - Jacob's Ladder
  • 16:08 Navan - Found A Fifty

14:25 Navan - Showurappreciation

The very lightly raced Showurappreciation has only had four starts over fences but produced a much improved performance to get off the mark at the fourth time of asking over the larger obstacles at Punchestown last month.

The eight-year-old ran well for a long way over three miles at Navan before that but didn’t really see the trip out that day. His success at Punchestown came by a comfortable margin of five-and-a-half lengths and that was despite being hampered in the middle stages of the race.

Returning to hurdles for this race, the son of Mastercraftsman has a 4lb lower mark in this sphere and should be capable of going in again if he can produce a similar level of form.

15:00 Navan - San Hilario

This doesn’t appear to be the warmest of maiden hurdles and the experienced San Hilario could take full advantage. Gordon Elliott’s gelding has finished second in three of his eight starts over hurdles and it’s about time he finally went one better.

He’s done well in a couple of Punchestown handicaps recently and wasn’t beaten far when second to Linden Arden over a furlong shorter on New Years’ Eve. Second again at the same track last month, the 121-rated five-year-old is very much the one to beat in this race.

15:35 Navan - Jacob’s Ladder

This looks like an excellent piece of placement from connections, as this isn’t the deepest of Grade 3s for Jacob’s Ladder’s return to graded company. Jack Kennedy rides the seven-year-old once more and the pair teamed up to win a competitive handicap at Leopardstown last time.

The drop back in trip worked wonders that day, as he pulled five lengths clear in good style after taking the lead just before the final fence. The handicapper has given him a mark of 151 and that suggests his rivals have a fair amount to find, making him hard to oppose.

16:08 Navan - Found A Fifty

Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins are the only two trainers represented in this race and they are set to have two runners each. Jack Kennedy has decided to ride Found A Fifty and that could prove to be a very wise decision, as the race conditions are in his favour.

The nine-year-old has been busy this season and has already claimed the scalps of Dinoblue and Majborough. Adaptable with regards to trip, he was a fair fourth in the Champion Chase at Down Royal, so this distance will be fine and the race is more to his level.
