‘No reason’ not to go for the Falmouth with Touleen

Touleen could be given the chance to prove she belongs at the top table with connections lining up a crack at the Group One Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket.

The Owen Burrows-trained filly was a fast-finishing runner-up to Precise in the Group One Coronation Stakes after encountering a far from smooth passage close home under Saffie Osborne.

But owners Shadwell think it is worth a shot at another Group One after the filly came out of the race well.

“We were delighted on the day but obviously frustrated at the same time,” said Angus Gold, racing manager for Shadwell. “That is only natural, but it was lovely that she has been second in a Group One.

“Owen said on Tuesday that he was really happy with her, she has hardly lost any weight and he is very happy so far with her progress so we will monitor and have a look at the Falmouth and see how she is and what the race looks like.”

July Course Trends and Group Alternatives

Three-year-olds have a decent record in the mile contest, winning six of the last 10 runnings at the July course, but with Touleen still to land any black type Gold admitted an easier option could be on the table.

“Obviously she is not yet a Group winner and it would be nice to make her one so it remains an option that we look for a lesser race to make sure she wins, as much as you can ever be sure.

“But I would say at the moment there is no reason not to go to the Falmouth so far.”
