1,2 for JP in Carrickmines

Carrigmartin and Niall 'Slippers' Madden got the better of a tremendous battle with Rahan De Marcigny (Paul Carberry up) as J P McManus-owned runners filled the first two placings in the Carrickmines Handicap Steeplechase at Leopardstown.

Eddie Harty trains Carrigmartin and the 9/1 shot (from 10s) stayed on well on the run-in to just shade the verdict from the Noel Meade-trained Rahan De Marcigny (had every chance on the run-in but did make a mistake three out).

Harty said: "He is a nice improving handicapper. He got a break after finishing second at Limerick at Christmas and I'm delighted with today's win.

"He'll get an entry in the Centenary Handicap (a new race) at Cheltenham. He might not get into it but there was good money on offer today and it's great to get it. He might improve on better ground.

"As regards Captain Cee Bee – he is in great form. He worked well yesterday morning and we're just hoping for good ground at Cheltenham now."
