16 remain in French Guineas

A total of 16 horses have stood their ground in the French 2,000 Guineas, the Poule d`Essai des Poulains, at Longchamp on Sunday.

Acceptors at the second stage today include the first three home in the main prep race, the Prix de Fontainebleau, Bowman, Medecis and Landseer.

Andre Fabre, Bowman`s trainer, has also kept his unbeaten Derby prospect, Shaanmer, as yet un-raced this term, in the classic.

Aidan O`Brien, Landseer`s trainer, has also left in Della Francesca, Sahara Desert, Nostradamus and Temple Of Artemis.

The British-trained acceptors are headed by Richard Hannon`s 2,000 Guineas third Redback.

They also include Captain Rio (Richard Whitaker), Guys And Dolls (Paul Cole), Studio Time (John Gosden), Aramram (Mick Channon) plus the Godolphin hopefuls, Firebreak and Waldenburg.

The 25 acceptors in the French 1,000 Guineas include an O`Brien quintet spearheaded by the winner of main prep race, the Prix de la Grotte, Sophisticat.

The British acceptors in the Poule d`Essai des Pouliches are Zenda (Gosden), Camaret (Gosden), Lipstick (Channon), Trojan Princess (Geoff Wragg) and Massarra (John Dunlop).

The group one winning pair Act One and O`Brien`s Ballingarry, both group one winning juveniles, are the standouts of the 12 remaining in the Prix Lupin.

Both have won French Derby trials impressively this term.

Brian Meehan`s Kaieteur is the sole British acceptor in the third group one event on the Sunday Longchamp card.

Invincible Spirit (Dunlop), Repertory (Malcom Saunders) and Red Millennium (Alan Berry), are the three British acceptors in the Group Three Prix de Saint-Georges on the same card.
