6 Declared For Grade 1 Hurdle At Navan On Sunday The ?90,000 Barry & Sandra Kelly Memorial Novice Hurdle (Grade One) has attracted a field of six runners at Navan on Sunday and a fascinating race is in prospect. Trainer Michael Hourigan supplemented the well regarded Mossbank at a cost of ?9,000 into the race last Tuesday and connections will be hoping that he can go one better than he did on his last appearance when narrowly defeated in a three mile race at Cork. At Navan in late November, Charles Byrnes' Powerstation just got the better of Travino by a short head in the Monksfield Novice Hurdle, a race in which the Noel Meade trained Nicanor was a faller at the second last flight when holding out every chance on victory and with all three rivals set to oppose each other again, there should be very little between them. Edward O'Grady's Forty Licks returned after a long break from racecourse action to win well at Naas last month and is another that will be strongly fancied in what should be a cracking race. After a narrow defeat in the Pierse Group Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse two weeks ago, Noel Meade's Father Matt will be a strong fancy to gain compensation in the Kevin McManus Bookmakers EBF Novice Chase on the same card. However, he faces two useful looking rivals in the shape of Southern Vic, a winner on his only start over fences at Galway in late October, and McGruders Cross, a good winner at Clonmel ten days ago, in what should be another interesting race on a fine pre-Christmas card.
