A short head is good enough for Meade and Bobby McGee Just over a length covered the first four home in the Naas Racecourse Business Club Blackwater Handicap which was won by Bobby McGee (13/2). Ridden by Chris Hayes in the colours of Anthony O'Gorman, the son of Mayson tracked the leaders in the one-mile contest and hit the front two furlongs out. He was strongly pressed in the closing stages by Jamestown but held on to foil that rival by a short head, thereby confirming Gowran maiden form with that rival. Winning trainer Noel Meade commented "He’s a nice horse. Chris said he was lonely in front and he would have been happier with something bringing him along a little bit further,  “We gelded him over the winter which was a big help to him. He was raunchy enough as a two-year-old. “We always liked him and hopefully he’ll keep coming on from this. He can’t go up too much for a short-head. “It was a nice race to win. He seemed to get the mile quite well. Chris rode him a few times last year, so it’s nice to see him win on him. “He’ll go for something similar. We’ll try and go for the good handicaps with plenty of money over seven furlongs or a mile.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
