Ainippe was unlucky not to finish closer than third in the William Hill Firth of Clyde Stakes at Ayr.

The Ger Lyons-trained filly lost her unbeaten record in the Flying Childers last week, but was still sent off the 3-1 favourite for this Group Three event.

Having settled towards the rear, she was blocked for a run when making her challenge and got going again too late to finish just over two lengths behind the winner Dark Reckoning.

Ann Duffield's 25-1 chance nipped through on the stands rail to snatch victory from Parsley close home.

Winning jockey Graham Lee said: "I got on to the fence and it was just a case of riding her for luck."

Duffield said: "This filly has done nothing wrong. She's won two races and deserves her rating of 90. I'm glad she's justified our faith from day one and has managed to win a Group Three."
