An Saighduir vindicates Slattery's faith

An Saighdiur , off the track since June, landed a short head success in the Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Championship maiden at Dundalk at odds of 7/1 for trainer Andrew Slattery and jockey Declan McDonogh.

Slattery was confident of a bold show from his three-year-old gelding who had course form in the book. He said: "He went wrong in the summer and has done nothing all year. I thought he would win today though.

"Declan (McDonogh) says he will get seven furlongs. He'll go on any ground but we'll campaign him at Dundalk until December."

Little Luxury , in first-time blinkers, was pipped for first place at 13/2. Sovereign Secure who was backed off course from 14/1 to 10/1 finished third at 11/1.
