Saint Irini rewarded a few supporters at grand odds in the Racing Again October 14th Handicap (div 1) at Navan today as the 25/1 'rag' completed a double on the day for apprentice jockey Nathan Crosse.

The Eamonn Delany trained four year old filly had previously failed to win in 13 starts but did seem to show the benefit of a recent outing at her local 'racecourse', Laytown when today scoring a length win over Invincible Queen

Delany is based 35km from Navan at Laytown and was represented by his son Alan Delany, a part owner with David Jordan, who said “we thought she ran well at Laytown, as she was in the wrong race but we wanted to run on the strand at our local track.

"She ran over seven (furlongs) there as a 90-rated horse won it, and she was six or seven lengths back. The third horse came out and won at Dundalk last week.

“With a bit of luck in-running today I thought we'd be fairly close and I was delighted with that.

“We had a few quid on and it'll pay for the diesel on the way home!”

He added “I'm delighted for young Nathan as that's his first double today. He never rode for us before, so it's great, and we've been lucky with the apprentices.

“We'll go to Dundalk or something like that. It's hard to get in there but now that she's won we can pick and choose and a little bit better.”
