Ascot Unlikely For Nickname

Nickname is unlikely to travel over to Britain to contest the Ascot Chase following his impressive win in the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown.

In the immediate aftermath of his 14-length demolition job, Brassil mentioned a trip to Ascot on February 17 as a possibility, but his liking for soft ground means he will probably remain in his homeland for the time being.

'We might consider the new race at Ascot, but with the ground in the straight, with the sand base, it may be too quick for him. It's different ground on the track all the way round which doesn't make it easy,' said Brassil.

The handler was fulsome in his praise of his charge though and it reaffirmed his opinion that he has a top-class horse on his hands.

'He couldn't be better after the race, thank goodness, and everything is fine with him,' continued Brassil.

'It was a super performance and he handles that heavy ground better than most.

'Everything went well for him. They went a good gallop in front, he settled well and it all worked out fine.

'It was all run to suit really because they went too fast in front and then they slowed up halfway.

'He got a lovely breather before they got to the last two fences and the others couldn't quicken up after the pace they had gone. It was very encouraging.

'He jumped so well. He really loves his jumping.'

Nickname is now as low as 12-1 with Coral for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March.
