The Sonny Carey-trained Asphalt Cowboy landed the featured Albert Bartlett Hunters Chase at Downpatrick for the second successive year when readily getting the better of stablemate Cause For Comment

Cause For Comment was sent off the 5/4 favourite, but Asphalt Cowboy showed great reserves of stamina in this extended 3m4f event.

Rob James’ mount jumped to the front two out and took full control on the run-in when galloping on strongly to score by 11 lengths. Fortune Lad was a further 20 lengths away in third.

Carey said, “He won the two hunters chases here last year. He loves it here and is a different horse around here.

"The other horse (Cause For Comment) is a much classier horse but this lad when he comes around here, he seems to light up. We'll work back from here next year!

"He's unbelievably talented, but he just has his own ideas about it. He's a yard favourite.

"He would be a right horse for the Ulster National. I would look at that; sure it is a 50 grand race.

"Cause For Comment ran a blinder, he was unlucky. He was very lucky to stand up. He's finished for the season, but he will be a lovely horse for next year.”
