Ashkal Cambridgeshire Doubt

Ashkal Way, ante-post favourite for the totesport Cambridgeshire, is not certain to run in the big Newmarket handicap after returning sore from his latest race at Newbury.

Brian Ellison´s three-year-old lost vital ground after being snatched up after two furlongs in the John Smith´s Stakes (Heritage Handicap) on Saturday yet was only beaten two lengths by the winner Star Of Light.

'He got pushed into the rails and has banged his joint. He´s bruised, sore and a bit lame on his near-fore,' said Ellison.

'The vet is treating him and it depends how quickly the bruising comes out if he can make it to the Cambridgeshire.

'It means he´ll have to miss some work and we´ll have to wait and see how he is by the weekend.'

Ashkal Way is 8-1 with Ladbrokes and 10-1 with the sponsors for the nine-furlong cavalry charge on Saturday week.
