Backpack Ban At Galway Galway Racecourse has issued a statement declaring that backpacks and large bags will not be permitted at this year's Festival. Following a review of safety procedures it has been decided to increase security at the course for the summer festival and this includes a ban on bags that measure bigger than A4 (29.7cm X 21cm). There will be no bag storage facilities in or around the racecourse. The increased security will include extra Gardai on duty at the course and bag and physical searches of all patrons and staff entering the course. The racecourse has warned that the new security measures will inevitably lead to delays at the points of entry and patrons should allow sufficient time to enter the racecourse.
