The Gordon Elliott-trained Ballydonagh Girl justified 6/5 favouritism when getting up late under jockey Harry Swan to win the concluding Bet With Tote On Racing & Sports Irish EBF Mares (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Naas.

A £155k purchase after landing her sole point-to-point start, the Gigginstown House Stud-owned five-year-old made the perfect start to her Rules career.

Prominent throughout, the daughter of Shirocco chased leader Bride Of Arainn for much of the contest.

Pushed along over two furlongs out, Ballydonagh Girl looked in trouble at the furlong pole, but as stamina kicked in up the stiff hill, she stayed on best to post a three-quarter-length victory.

“She's a grand honest filly. She'll probably want a bit further,” said Elliott.

“That was only a bonus, she'll be better whenever she gets a jump.

“We'll try and get a bit of black-type somewhere in a bumper before we go the other road.

“Harry said she had a good blow and she'll come on plenty from it. She showed a great attitude.”
