Bangor and Fontwell both beat the weather

This afternoon's meetings at Bangor and Fontwell both go ahead as planned after surviving morning inspections.

Following a mild night, clerk of the course Ed Gretton was delighted to give the card at Bangor the green light as Tony McCoy continues the frustrating quest to ride his 3,000th winner.

'We had a plus three night. Temperatures might just dip below freezing between 7am and 9am but the way it thawed overnight has left us confident,' said Gretton.

'We've had no rain since 5pm yesterday, so we are very happy,' he added.

McCoy has four rides at the track as he looks for his first winner in a week.

There was also good news at Fontwell where an 8am inspection was brought forward as the course was only hit by a minimal amount of rain overnight. However conditions remain heavy.

'We had 3mm of rain overnight, and are forecast to get around 4mm of rain or sleet throughout the rest of the day,' said clerk of the course Ed Arkell.

'We had no problems with the temperature as it never dropped below freezing all night.'
