Barefoot & Moran take Woodbine Grade 2 Richard Fahey's Barefoot Lady stormed to success in the Grade Two Canadian Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday. The four year old daughter of Footstepsinthesand has proved a tough and consistent performer for the Malton handler throughout her career and had raced seven times already in 2012. Partnered by Irishman Davy Moran, substituting for Jamie Spencer who would have had to have put up overweight, she was well placed throughout the nine furlong contest. Moran took up the running not long after the two furlong pole in the straight and Barefoot Lady quickly opened up an advantage of a couple of lengths which had only dwindled to one and a half lengths at the line. Moran told www.woodbineentertainment.com: "I had a great trip. I just moved her out and it was all over from there. She finished strong to the wire, and she had it in the bank. "It was a perfect trip. I was happy I was behind (jockey) Luis (Contreras, aboard Laughing). I thought he was the horse to bring me into the race, anyway. Then, I just got her out right on the turn and from there it was over, really." Alyson Deniel, representing the winning trainer, admitted that the late change of jockey had been a little unnerving but added: "It worked out perfectly, to be honest. Davy is proven on the turf. He gave a great ride on the German horse (Lacara) the other day and did the same job today." Deniel reported that Barefoot Lady could return to Canada next month for a tilt at the Grade One E.P. Taylor Stakes.
