Barry suffers fractured pelvis

Jockey Shay Barry is recovering in the Whitfield private hospital in Co. Waterford having fractured his pelvis in a dramatic last fence fall in yesterday's Owen McCarthy Handicap Chase at Killarney.

Barry was initially taken to Tralee hospital along with Alain Cawley (dislocated shoulder), but both riders were discharged at 2am.

Turf Club Chief Medical Officer Adrian McGoldgrick said this afternoon: "I have just been speaking to Shay and he has a fractured pelvis.

"I was concerned when I heard this morning that he had been discharged at 2am considering the severity of his fall."
