Battle Of Ridgeway asserted in fine style in the closing stages of the HPR Fleet Management Handicap Hurdle at Gowran to run out a comprehensive winner.

The Martin Hassett-trained gelding was prominent throughout in the two-miler and was asked for an effort after the second last.

He quickened clear before the final flight for Liam McKenna and the 10/1 shot stayed on strongly on the run-in to post a nine length success over 33/1 shot Brilliant Question

The winner was returning to the smaller obstacles having been well beaten over fences at this venue last month.

Hassett said:- “He was still going well coming to the second last here the last day over fences, but he ran with the choke out and didn’t get home.

“He was a lot more relaxed today and was coming back in trip.

“He’s a real chaser but was always a moral to win a race over hurdles off his (12lb lower) mark.”
