Jeriko De Baune dug deep to land the spoils in the Clonmel Oil Service Station Handicap Hurdle for Philip Fenton.

The 17/2 shot raced from a couple of pounds out of the handicap in the €25,000 contest, over three miles, and was prominent throughout under Niall Moore.

He fought it out with Prophet’s Corner turning for home and just edged ahead of that rival on that run-in for a hard fought three-parts-of-a-length success.

Jeriko De Baune was third on his last outing at Sligo and was recording a third career victory today.

Fenton said:- "Being 2lb out of the handicap wasn't ideal but at the same time I was glad that Gordon (Elliott) didn't declare his top weight which would have put us 7lb out, and we probably wouldn't have run.

“He likes heavy ground and while it wasn't as heavy as he'd like it, he stuck at it well. Niall took the bull by the horns and rode him positively, so it was a great ride.

"Who knows where he ends up going but he has a handicap mark over fences as well so that is an option.

"Lily Lawlor, who was involved in Dunguib, is involved in this horse along with the other half the Crohane Syndicate, who are local to myself at home."
