Beef or Salmon, Kicking King and Nil Desperandum feature in Down Royal Chase A total of 18 horses were entered for the Grade 1 James Nicholson Wine Merchant Champion Chase at the Northern Ireland Festival of Racing at Down Royal when entries closed yesterday for the €140,000 feature chase at the course on Saturday 6th November. Beef or Salmon, Kicking King and Nil Desperandum were entered as previously indicated by their trainers Michael Hourigan, Tom Taaffe and Frances Crowley. Colca Canyon winner of the Munster National last weekend has also been entered by Jessica Harrington while the Tony Mullins trained Barrow Drive, which unseated his rider two from home in the Munster National is again an entry having finished third in the Down Royal feature last year. Glenelly Gale winner of the Grade 1 chase last time and 2003 runner up Arctic Copper are again included while the latter´s trainer Noel Meade has also entered Harbour View, twice placed in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Risk Accessor owned by JP McManus and trained by Christy Roche finished runner up in the Limerick feature last weekend with Tony McCoy in the saddle is an entry at the Champion Jump Jockey´s local track while Cloudy Bays winner of the Troytown and Leopardstown Chase last season is another notable entry. Two local trainers have made entries. Byron Lamb formerly trained by Nicky Richards but now based with County Fermanagh trainer, David Christie and the James Lambe trained, Zurs have been included at the initial entry stage.
