Bellewstown Preview 30 June 2004

The three-day Bellewstown Festival swings into action on Wednesday evening when a mixed seven-race card commences at 5.30.

The opening two-year-old maiden should see Joe Crowley’s Alahart lose her maiden tag at the sixth time of asking.

A reproduction of the filly’s last run behind Benwilt Breeze and subsequent Curragh Goffs Challenge victor Kestrel Cross should be adequate for a race of this standard.

The following three-mile handicap hurdle is a more competitive affair with little separating the two main likely market leaders San Diego and Aston.

The pair met at Roscommon recently with Aston coming out on top by three and a half lengths. San Diego is two pound better off on today’s terms but Aston should have enough in the tank to confirm that form.

Favourite backers could do worse than side with probable betting forerunner More Rainbows in the mile and six furlong handicap.

Noel Meade’s charge ran out a very comfortable winner in a mile and a half event at Limerick earlier this month and the step up in trip here should pose no problems.

The concluding bumper sees several horses with genuine chances and any market moves for Tony Martin’s newcomer Deerpark Lad should be noted. While of those with form to consider are Joe Crowley’s Lalfinn and Jessica Harrington’s Colour Cards.
