Big US success for O'Donoghue Marco Botti's Jakkalberry won the inaugural running of the American St. Leger Stakes at Arlington Park on Saturday. The six-year-old was sent off the 8-5 favourite by Chicago punters and he obliged at those odds after getting the better of long-time leader Ioya Bigtime in the straight. Colm O'Donoghue settled his mount in fifth in the early stages but was always going well on turf described as good as Ioya Bigtime set the fractions up front. O'Donoghue mounted his challenge rounding the final turn and although he didn't pass the game frontrunner with ease the British raider was well on top at the line. The pair pulled clear with Ioya Bigtime second, while John Gosden's Zuider Zee was third under William Buick. The race was run over one mile and five and a half furlongs and it was the first time Hardwicke Stakes fifth Jakkalberry had won over a trip in excess of a mile and a half.
