Bellewstown will host its richest ever race when the €25,000 Fast Shipping Bellewstown Hurdle takes place at the Co. Meath venue on Friday July 5.

There is an additional carrot for prospective runners as the winner will be eligible for a €25,000 bonus should they go on to also land the Galway Hurdle at Ballybrit on August 1.

Chairman of Bellewstown Races, Jim Corcoran said: “This is wonderful news, for owners and trainers and racegoers. Every year the standard of racing at Bellewstown gets better and better, and this year will see further progress.

“The Bellewstown Race Committee would like to thank Simon Mulvany, of Fast Shipping Ireland for his support. He has been a longstanding sponsor of Bellewstown Races, and his sponsorship indicates a great confidence in Bellewstown and indeed Irish racing.”

Simon Mulvany, the Managing Director of Fast Shipping Ireland, commented: “We have a great interest in horse racing and are particularly fond of Bellewstown, which is our local course - only five miles from our business which is based in Drogheda.

“I would love to see the horse that wins our race in Bellewstown go on to win the illustrious Galway Hurdle, and if they do we will be there with a bonus of €25,000 for them.’’

The annual three-day Bellewstown Festival on the hill of Crockafotha takes place over a full weekend with two evening meetings on Friday July 5 and Saturday July 6 and a day meeting on Sunday July 7.
