Blank day for racing There will be no racing today both in Ireland and the UK following the abandonment of both Wolverhampton and Fontwell this morning. The all-weather fixture at Wolverhampton succumbed to the icy weather after overnight temperatures of minus 11.5C left the track unraceable. Clerk of the course Fergus Cameron said: "The huge efforts of our team cannot go unnoticed as we have made great improvement over the last few days. "But, at this stage, there is insufficient evidence to justify being able to create a proper racing surface. The thaw, which is on its way, has simply arrived too late." This afternoon's meeting at Fontwell has also fallen victim to the frost, with overnight temperatures dipping to minus 9C. Clerk of the course Ed Arkell said: "We had a minus 9C overnight, and are just about to hit the coldest part of the day. It's frozen solid - we just didn't have a chance. "It's such a shame because the groundstaff have done an absolutely outstanding job and worked so hard in attempting to get this meeting on." The three Irish meetings at Leopardstown, Limerick and Down Royal have also been cancelled due to the cold snap. Limerick will hold an inspection today to determine prospects for racing there tomorrow, while Monday's meeting at Leopardstown has already been cancelled.
