Blank weekend for Irish racing

Leopardstown's meeting on Sunday, set to feature three Grade One contests including the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, has been cancelled after a morning inspection and rescheduled for Sunday February 15. Saturday's fixture at Naas also fell victim to the weather yesterday.

The track at Leopardstown is currently covered in frozen snow with the prospect of severe frosts for the next two nights.

'Unfortunately they have had to cancel as it is covered in a blanket of frozen snow,' said Irish Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone.

'The forecast is not terrific, and they are due severe frosts for the next two nights.'

The Navan meeting scheduled for February 15 has been put back 24 hours to Monday 16th to facilitate the Foxrock venue.
