Blue Point could step up in trip for Dewhurst Blue Point may bid to redeem his reputation in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. The Godolphin-owned colt suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of The Last Lion in the Middle Park Stakes last month, having won the Gimcrack Stakes in convincing fashion at York in August. However, he has taken the race so well that he might turn up on the Rowley Mile, with ground conditions set to suit. And trainer Charlie Appleby would like to try Blue Point over seven furlongs, as it would give connections an indication on what his programme might be for 2017. "We are keeping our options open," the Newmarket handler told At The Races. "He's in great order which is why we left him in the Dewhurst, to take another look, and we'll make a decision later in the week. "It's certainly under serious consideration. Stepping him up to seven this year will steer us in the right direction for next spring. I t would answer a lot of questions." William Hill make Blue Point a 5-1 chance for the Dewhurst behind Aidan O'Brien-trained favourite Churchill at 4-7.
