Bobs Worth beats Simonsig at Aintree Bobs Worth held off the challenge of stablemate Simonsig as Nicky Henderson's old stars did battle in the Betfred Hurdle at Aintree. Simonsig was much the better fancied of the two stablemates, going off a 5-2 chance in the hands of Barry Geraghty while the Nico De Boinville-ridden Bobs Worth was sent off at odds of 11-1. However, it was the outsider who held the advantage turning for home, with only favourite Purple Bay anywhere near the two Henderson runners. He eventually faded tamely and Geraghty looked supremely confident as Simonsig cantered down to the final couple of obstacles. Bobs Worth, winner of the 2013 Cheltenham Gold Cup, was not going to give up easily though and as Simonsig moved alongside, he dug deep and pulled away by a length and a half. Simonsig was having his first start since winning the 2013 Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival and his rider felt that 970-day absence was the reason for his defeat. Geraghty said: "It was a great run after two and a half years. He travelled great, but coming to the third last I knew I didn't have an awful lot left in the tank and he just emptied out. "It was a great run and by the winner as well. "He's shown his true colours there."
