Former champion trainer Jim Bolger got off the mark for 2026 with Neo Smart at Dundalk yesterday and while his horse numbers have dropped considerably, it is hoped his Mumhan can now confirm the promise of September’s debut success.

The homebred son of Mehmas scored nicely on his Curragh debut last September but then disappointed in the Killavullen Stakes at Leopardstown in October.

The half-brother to Listed-winner Wexford Native holds an Irish 2,000 Guineas entry and Bolger’s travelling head lad Ger Flynn reports "at the back end in the Curragh he won a maiden and then was disappointing in Leopardstown.

"Mumhan is back in training now and he's working away. He has done really well, he has strengthened up and has filled out. He has a French Guineas entry as well, so he is something to look forward to for the year.

"Contesting a Guineas Trial will depend on what the boss says and obviously, you wouldn't go on bottomless ground with him. I'm sure the boss will have something picked out for him in April and he always likes the Leopardstown Guineas Trial. We went for there in the past with Poetic Flare and I'd say he will probably pick out something like that."
